I needed my windows replaced, I contacted a couple of contractors but neither of them showed up for our appointments. Then I tried your service and you found me a great contractor who showed up on time and did great work.

Home Improvement / Roofing

Roofing

Roofing is responsible for several important functions. Most importantly, it serves as the structural support of your home. In addition, the roof controls water ingress, air flow, water vapor diffusion, heat flow, and offers surface protection. However, in order for a roof to function properly, the right roof materials and components in the assembly must be selected based on the properties that make them suitable for these various tasks.

The price of a new roof system varies widely, depending on such things as the materials selected, contractor doing the work, location, local labor rates and time of year. It is important to keep in mind that for each roofing material, there are different grades and corresponding prices. There also are a variety of roof styles and shapes to choose from. You need to look at the full product range and make a choice based on your budget and needs.

There are many different distinct shapes for roofs these days, some more common than others. We have provided our users with a list of the most popular roofing shapes today and some details about their appearance and construction.

  • Gabled - Constructed with a single slope on each side of the ridge, creating a triangle portion on the side of front facade.
  • Side-Gabled - Non-gabled side faces the front and contains the front doorway.
  • Front-Gabled - Gabled side faces the front and contains the front doorway.
  • Cross-Gabled - Perpendicular wings are added to the main section forming two individual sections.

Our roofing contractors are trained to give advice for when a house needs new roofing installed or replaced. It is hard to tell whether roofing needs to be refurbished or completely substituted, therefore roof contractors are hired to inspect your house to see if your shingles are in bad shape and need to be exchanged for new ones, or if they simply need to be overlaid with a fresh layer of material.

Roofing can be damaged do to weather elements, erosion, or flashing problems. Therefore, since roofing is painstaking and exact work, it is best to employ professional roof contractors who know how to install shingles properly because even if you buy the best materials, if installation is done improperly the project remains a failure.

Asphalt Shingle Roofing

Asphalt shingles are the most commonly used roofing material in North America mainly because they are economical and versatile, work well on steep-sloped roofs, are sunlight and weather resistant, require little-to-no maintenance and are reasonably priced. In addition, asphalt shingles are also easy to cut, fasten, and fit, as well as being compatible with many different kinds of flashing and edging products. Asphalt shingles are a great choice for a roofing material if you are looking for a fairly standard roof, with low maintenance, a great price, and a reasonable service life. They typically cost anywhere from $50 to $150 or more per square. Keep in mind that tearing off the existing shingles will add another $30 to $50 per square.

Metal Roofing

Metal roofs have become a popular alternative to traditional roofing materials. This is due to the fact that metal is lightweight, maintenance-free, fireproof, energy efficient, durable, and can be manufactured to give virtually any look conceivable. Furthermore, metal roofs have a life expectancy of over 30 years and houses with metal roofs may receive a discount on the homeowner's insurance. Metal roofing may start at $100 per square and run up to $600 a square or more for coated steels and copper. They cost more to install than shingle roofs, but the difference is not as great when re-roofing. In addition, metal roofs can be applied over several layers of old shingles, so the tear-off expenses are eliminated. And most metal roof manufacturers also provide a lifetime warranty.

Slate Roofing

Slate is one of the most aesthetically pleasing and durable of all roofing materials. Installed properly, slate roofs require little maintenance and offer a life expectancy of hundreds of years. The lifespan of a slate roof depends greatly on the type of slate employed, the roof configuration, and the geographical location of the property. Slate roofing is considered to be the most stylish and sophisticated of all roof covers. It is available in various grades, textures and colors. However, expect to pay high prices for this high-quality roofing product. Also, an expert roofing contractor should be used in slate installation because it requires much skill. With its need for skilled and experienced craftsmen, slate could cost up to $1000 a square.

Tile Roofing

Tile roofing is definitely becoming one of the most popular materials used in roofing. It is available in concrete or clay, and in many different colors and shapes. Its versatility gives homeowners the ability to find something that matches their home. Concrete roofing tiles offer elegant, long-term aesthetics for house designs and improved marketability for the builder. They also provide greater protection to the homeowner. Roofing tiles come in all different varieties. Shingle, shake and slate are just some of the varieties of tile.
